We R Here title banner

Shot entirely on cell phone, We R Here chronicles the lives of DJ, Billy and Maria, 3 unhoused individuals living on the streets. Each tells their own story through their own lens and shares the highs and lows of their homeless experience. This intimate portrayal reflects on the inherently political nature of poverty, addiction, homelessness and community.

PART 1: DJ lives in his VW Beetle. He asks us to pray for him. He dreams of escaping life on the streets, but must first deal with what’s in front of him.

PART 2: Billy supports his mentally and physically unwell wife – and many dogs – with the money he earns from panhandling. Eventually time catches up with them and they must abandon their dogs and soiled RV.

PART 3: Maria has lived in a massive encampment for 5 years and forged a strong sense of community with other residents. Her community faces possible displacement as the city is ready to close the encampment.
